Description
Migration of fish in streams and rivers is prevented by various structures (mills, weirs, locks, ...). To make the migration of those fish species possible again, various projects are realized in Flanders. This dataset contains information on the functioning of the fish passages. more

Geographic coverage: The Flemish Region is one of the three official regions of the Kingdom of Belgium—alongside the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region. It is usually simply referred to as Flanders. It occupies the northern part of Belgium and covers an area of 13,522 km2 (44.29% of Belgium). It is one of the most densely populated regions of Europe.
Taxonomic coverage: All species in this dataset are fishes (Actinopterygii, Cephalaspidomorphi), except for the Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), which is an invasive arthropod. The top 3 recorded species are Gobio gobio (29%), Rutilus rutilus (26%), and Barbatula barbatula (9%).
Sampling methods: Fyke net catches.
Study Extent: Evaluation of Fish passage places.
Quality Control: All records are validated. The publication of this dataset was supported by the INBO as part of the Flemish contribution to LifeWatch.
