Abstract
    The mud shrimp Axius stirhynchus Leach, 1815 is recorded for the first time in the North Sea. Two small specimens were dredged at the beginning of the twentieth century in the southern part of this sea : One specimen on 11/XI/1913 -Deal (near Dover) and an other was dredged on 30N/1905 -51026'N -02°29'45"E. The shrimp digs a burrow in coarse muddy sand mixed with pebbles and the upper part of the burrow is usually located under a large stone.
