Abstract
The "Autoridad de Canal Panama" (ACP) intends to increase the transit capacity of the Panama Canal to meet the growing cargo-carrying demand along major international maritime trade routes. During the tender phase of the Panal Canal extension project, several groups of tenderers were involved. The Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute of Germany (BAW) worked as scientific consultant for the Bilfinger Berger AG in the “Consortium Atlantico Pacifico de Panama” (CAPP) and had the objective to validate the performance of the proposed filling and emptying system for the new locks. The procedure for the investigations and parts of the achieved results are presented in this paper.
