Abstract
During recent years considerable progress has been made in describing and understanding the immune system of fish. Antigenic stimulation evokes immune responses which are comparable wiith those in homeothermic vertebrates. For example, the humoral and the cellular response show the expected characteristics of specificity and memory. These data are not only evaluating the heath status of fish under different environmental conditions, but can also be used for improving largescale aquaculture systems (e.g.vaccination and breeding for disease resistance).
