Abstract
Greece is a country in which more than 50% of all seismic energy of Europe is released. This is equivalent to 2% of the seismic energy of the world, whereas Greece covers only 0.09% of the world’ s surface. It has been estimated that in Greece an earthquake of M > 5R happens every 15 days. The reason is that Greece is situated at the front of a collision between two major plates: the African and the Euro-Asian.
