Abstract
Principles of coastal morphology is a book that covers the physical phenomena of the major coastal environments: mud-dominated, sand-dominated and gravelrock dominated coasts. Natural developments as well as engineering aspects are described. The book focuses on modern processes like hydrodynamics, sediment dynamics and morphodynamics on a time scale from hours to decades along straight coasts and barrier island coasts. The book is written for a broad audience consisting of coastal scientists, engineers and planners, who all need to understand the basic phenomena that occur in the coastal zone.
