This dataset is comprised of 24 records representing 12 species of diatoms from the Central Arctic Basin of Canada. The materials were obtained by skindivers in the Central Arctic basin at drift stations SP-23 in August 1977 and SP-22 in July 1980. The percent abundance for each species is recorded within the dataset. The morphology, ecology, range and species makeup of mass accumulations of diatom algae that are biotypically associated with the lower surface of arctic sea ice are discussed within the paper.
