Abstract
The compared efficiency of three very different commercial foods (C, D and E) presented either separately or together (diet M) with demand feeders, is studied with gilthead sea bream of 60g initial mean weight. Evaluation is done by calculating the growth rate, daily food consumption (DFC), conversion index, carcass composition, protein efficiency ratio (PER), liver to body weight ratio and the preferences of the fish. The best results are obtained with food E and diet M, made up by the fish from foods C, D and E in the respective proportions of 13%, 33% and 54%, with the worst results obtained by food C. Likewise, the cost of food per kilo of fish produced is, with food E and diet M, 46% inferior. Food D insures growth rates of fish, as good as food E and diet M, but at 18% higher cost.
