Abstract
Preliminary feeding studies were undertaken using laboratory reared Penaeus indicus and Metapenaeus monoceros larvae fed 14C labelled Dunaliella salina and Skeletonema costatum. Algal cell concentrations at which feeding was limited were noted. Maximum cell ingestion rates and assimilation values were obtained for each larval stage from protozoea I to mysis III. The relevance of these techniques in identifying suitable food organisms for larval rearing is discussed.
