Abstract
In order to identify the sources of the different radio-nuclides at each sediment sampling site, and to determine the main transport processes, the role of radio-nuclides in measuring sediment accumulation rates (and hence burial rates of pollutants) is illustrated. Particular attention is given to 210Pb, 137Cs (weapons, Chernobyl), 241AM and 241Pu (Sellafield). Inventories from the NOWESP shelf are discussed in relation to the respective sources, and are compared with similar results from other areas.
