On June 23rd-24th 2015, VLIZ and LifeWatch participated in the Ocean Sampling Day (OSD), which is organized each year in the framework of the MicroB3 project. The ultimate goal of OSD is to unveil the secrets of microbial life in the ocean. On OSD, both oceanographers and citizens take seawater samples on almost 200 sites worldwide. During a LifeWatch sampling campaign with the RV Simon Stevin, DNA samples for prokaryotes were collected from 17 stations in the Belgian Part of the North Sea.

On February 23rd 2015, the open data efforts for LifeWatch at the INBO were presented at the Open Belgium conference organized by the Open Knowledge Foundation Belgium.

On February 20th 2015, several demo sessions at the VLIZ Marine Scientist Day in Bruges (Belgium) highlighted different aspects of the Flemish LifeWatch infrastructure, and its related components:

During the IPTA 2016 Conference, a presentation was given about the Belgian LifeWatch Observatory: Automatic detection, tracking and counting of birds in marine video content (R. T'Jampens et al.).

At the TDWG 2016 annual conference the LifeWatch INBO team organized a workshop on the use of OpenRefine for data cleaning and specifically how to use it to standardize biodiversity data to Darwin Core. The workshop was attended by over 30 participants.

During the TDWG 2016 annual conference in Costa Rica, GitHub was presented in a keynote presentation on December 5th, human- and machine-readable specifications were presented on December 6th, and the LifeWatch Species Information Backbone and its current components were presented on December 9th.

From December 1st-2nd 2016, the LifeWatch Species Information Backbone and its current components were presented at the Arctic Traits workshop in Vienna, Austria.

During the North Sea Open Science Conference (November 7th-10th 2016, Ostend), a presentation was given about the LifeWatch Marine Observatory: "Building an innovative and multidisciplinary marine biodiversity observatory for Lifewatch" (K. Deneudt, VLIZ), and one about the fish acoustic telemetry network: "Acoustic receiver network - the need for range testing" (J. Reubens, VLIZ/UGent).

From November 9th-11th 2016, The LifeWatch Species Information Backbone and its current components were presented at the Names in November meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands.

From October 12th-14th 2016, the LifeWatch Species Information Backbone and its current components were presented at The Ocean's Seafloor - One Bio-Geo Symposium in Hannover, Germany.
