Open Belgium is an annual Open Knowledge and Open Data conference gathering industry, research, government and citizen stakeholders. In other words, anyone who is interested in Open Knowledge and Open Data is more than welcome! 

We aim to bring you up to speed with the latest trends, innovations and best practices by sharing experiences among this wide range of participants. Get inspired by keynote presentation, reflective Q&A sessions, engaging panel discussions as well as hands-on and minds-on workshops.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 5th World Conference on Marine Biodiversity happened fully virtually.

During the OBIS poster session on Tuesday December 15th, the LifeWatch VLIZ team was present with two virtual poster presentations:

• EurOBIS: the gateway to European marine biodiversity data (presenter: Leen Vandepitte)

• WoRMS: a global expert-driven marine species database (presenter: Leen Vandepitte)

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 anniversary edition of the VMSD had to be cancelled. As it is hard to predict how the situation will be in March 2021, we have opted to organise an online, special VLIZ Marine Science Day on 3 March 2021.

We revamped the program substantially, and go for a spicy and concise program of presentations, interaction and surprise elements. An ideal opportunity that will guide you in a nutshell through a variety of inspiring marine science and fascination.

Even in corona times, anyone can be a (marine) scientist for one day, and help us map the diversity of the shells on our Belgian coast. Go to the beach in your family bubble in the weekend of 13-14 March and collect 100 shells according to our standard method. Identify and count them, and take pictures. At the online HELPdesk experts can help you to recognize any problem cases, before you enter your data and photos in the input system. So completely corona proof!

On Friday February 5th, from 14:00 - 16:30, the Flemish LifeWatch partners (VLIZ and INBO) will kick-off the new phase of LifeWatch Flanders, introduce the project and give an update on the latest news.
