The marine mammal and sea turtle monitoring, vessel- and aerial-based surveys, were conducted between November 11–23, 2010, before, during, and after the Pacific Fleet training event in the HRC. more

The objectives of the vessel-based monitoring effort for Koa Kai 11-1 consisted of the following: - Perform focal behavioral follows of marine mammals during the course of a training event involving ASW - Assess the occurrence, distribution, and behavior of target species (marine mammals and sea turtles) using a vessel-based line transect survey within the HRC in waters within or adjacent to the area where ships were training - Locate individual false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens), pygmy killer whales (Feresa attenuata), and short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) tagged by Dr. Robin Baird with Cascadia Research - Investigate the occurrence, distribution, and behavior of target species (marine mammals and sea turtles) using vessel-based line transect survey in waters within or adjacent to the area where Navy ships were training.
