Description
This database covers the spatial and temporal distribution of most euphausiids species dominating the coastal and oceanic areas of Central/southern Chile. more

This database covers the spatial and temporal distribution of most euphausiids species dominating the coastal and oceanic areas of Central/southern Chile. This region is an important fishery area based on pelagic and demersal fishes and reported as having very high levels of primary production promoted by wind-driven coastal upwelling. Euphausiids along with copepods comprise the main contributors to zooplankton biomass in this region and they are the dominating food resource of small pelagic (anchovy and sardines), large pelagic (Jack Mackerel) and demersal fishes (Chilean hake). Additional Information: The notes column includes the following fields from the original dataset ordered from left to right: typeofcollectingevent, collectingevent, station, and dayornight. These fields are defined as follows: Typeofcollectingevent: specifies sampling gear. Collectingevent: the name of the oceanographic cruise. Station: refers to the sampling station whose code depends on the cruise. Dayornight: refers to either a daylight condition or nighttime condition.
