Abstract
The purpose of this work is to make a study of the species of the Gastropods of the family Muricidae as some of them present an important commercial interest. We chose three stations at La Goulette located in the Bay of Tunis, one on rocky bottoms covered with Algae and two on soft bottoms at two different depths : 3-4 m and 10-15 m. Out of a total of 1251 specimens, we were able to identify 4 species: Bolinus brandaris, Hexaplex trunculus, Ocinebrina edwardsii, Ocinebra erinaceus. Each species has been described and characterized by habitat preferences, trophic groups and biogeographicaffinities. Quantitatively, Hexaplex trunculus (Linnaeus, 1758),commonly called «Bakouma» in Tunisia, is largely dominant in the Muricidae population. The monthly dynamics of this species showed remarkable fluctuations in abundance depending of the month of the collect and on the variability of the depth.
