+ Research Vessel Simon Stevin

Interested in marine research? Or curious to take a look around a research vessel? On Sunday 23 November – Science Day – head over to the Marine Station Ostend of the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). Join us in shaping the story of the sea of tomorrow.
Welcome to the Decade of the Ocean – where science, wonder and action come together. During Gen-Sea, you will discover how we are building the sea of tomorrow today. The ocean provides us with food, oxygen, energy and knowledge. But this rich blue ecosystem is under pressure. That is why on Science Day, marine scientists, makers and doers come together to share insights and solutions.
What can you expect?
- Interactive stands showcasing cutting-edge marine research.
- Inspiring talks on complex challenges by leading marine scientists.
- Hands-on workshops where you can roll up your sleeves.
- Meet-the-scientist: ask your questions and take a look behind the scenes.
- Dedicated LifeWatch booths, as always, highlighting biodiversity and ecosystem research.
- Contribute actively to the story of tomorrow’s ocean.
Whether you are a curious teenager, a motivated student, a professional or simply a fan of the sea – Gen-Sea is for everyone ready to help turn the tide.
