Description

Time series of the normalised cumulative fluxes at three transects (Doel, Wintam, and Vlissingen) for the six different classes considered in the macroplastic transport model of PLASTFLOW:

  • floating plastic objects,
  • suspended sheet-like objects (e.g. fragments of plastic bags), and
  • sinking plastic objects,

for which both macroplastics (size > 25 mm) and mesoplastics (size between 5 mm and 25 mm) were simulated.

more

The normalised flux is defined as the net number of particles crossing a transect divided by the initial number of particles released in the model (see IMDC report, page 9: Wang, L.; Breugem, W.A., Koutrouveli, T.; Decrop, B.; International Marine and Dredging Consultants (IMDC): Belgium; (2025): Macroplastic Flux from river Scheldt to the North Sea.).

In the final project report (D1.2), the corresponding normalised fluxes are presented for all transects but only for macroplastics (three classes).

Additional results are included in the final project report (D1.2), such as a table presenting an estimate of the total annual flux, which is calculated also based on the observed plastic concentrations.
