Abstract
    The freshwater anostracan S. proboscideus has been reported from temporary ponds in the environment of Khartoum and from several localities in southern Africa. The first descriptions were inadequate or restricted to the most distinguishing characters, such as the morphology of the male antennes and of the frontal appendage. The external morphologies of adults and cysts are here described in full, using light and scanning electron microscopy. The distribution of this species is discussed.
