Abstract
Thaicythere srisumonae n. gen., n. sp. is described from Thailand. This is the first published record of Timiriaseviinae from Southeast Asia and it brings the extant timiriaseviinids to 51 species in 8 genera. The chorology of this subfamily is briefly discussed. Phylogenetic analyses, based on morphological characters of valves and soft parts, are carried out to evaluate systematic relationships within this subfamily. Both Maximum Parsimony (MP) and Neighbour Joining (NJ) trees show that Thaicythere n. gen. is closely related to Metacypris, but relationships amongst other genera remain unresolved. Additionally, the previously proposed relationship between Afrocythere and Elpidium is not supported by our results.
