Abstract A survey of bryozoan faunas from the Eggenburgian (Lower Miocene) of Austria, based on recently collected material, is given. The fauna is compared with the well-known material from the Badenian and with the Ottnangian fauna. The marked differences, indicating a sequence of at least three different faunas from the area concerned, are explained on the basis of faunal migrations following different transgressions during the Neogene period in this area.
