PatriNat, a data and expertise center on nature, has been providing expertise and knowledge management services to its three supervisory bodies since January 2017: the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
As a Center of Expertise on Biodiversity, PatriNat provides technical and scientific support to government departments, local authorities, and public institutions responsible for biodiversity and natural areas within the framework of national and international public policies, such as the European Nature Directives. It also provides its scientific expertise to socio-economic stakeholders implementing biodiversity-related initiatives in their environmental policies.
As a Nature Data Center, PatriNat collaborates with networks of environmental and research stakeholders to develop the computing techniques and methodologies necessary for the interoperability of data exchange at the national and international levels. It works with these networks to build repositories and knowledge bases on species and habitats to enable the production and dissemination of structured data as well as robust indicators on the state of biodiversity in France.
