| Abstract |
During 1988 there were several mass strandings of the seastar Asterias rubens along the Belgian and northern French coast. A possible explanation could be that, after the cold winters of 1995/1996 en 1996/1997 bivalves, such as Spisula subtruncata, consisting the main prey of Asterias rubens, were more abundant than normal. |
