| Abstract |
This chapter discusses the order Cheilostomatida found in the southern bend of the North Sea, between Cap Gris-Nez in France and the German-Danish border. Overall, 160 species have been identified, 58 with opesia, 19 with cribrimorph costae, and 83 with a calcified frontal shield. New non-indigenous species, such as Conopeum chesapeakensis, Electra cf. asiatica, Juxtacribrilina mutabilis, Metroperiella cf. biformis, and Schizoporella cf. variabilis, have become established, and Celleporaria brunnea reached our beaches once, on plastic. Three new species of the superfamily Cribrilinoidea are described, namely Cribrilina belgica nov. sp., Distansescharella spirorbicola nov. sp., and Puellina monostachys nov. sp. The species complex Microporella “ciliata” from the area comprises five new species: Microporella annae nov. sp., Microporella dirupoi nov. sp., Microporella helgolandensis nov. sp., Microporella kindi nov. sp., and Microporella vanoutryvei nov. sp. Porella chadleyi nov. sp. is also newly described. In addition to an identification key and illustrations, all other species are accompanied by a brief description, and the known distributional data are listed in detail. |
