Abstract
We describe a new anthurid isopod, Amakusanthura camiguinensis sp. n., from the shallow water of Camiguin Island in Mindanao, the Philippines. It resembles A. dubia and A. vermiformis in having a dorsal brown dotted pigmentation pattern on the body but differs in the weakly stepped pereopod-1 palm. Among the 45 congeners not sharing this body pigmentation pattern, A. camiguinensis sp. n. is morphologically similar to A. geminsula, A. hibbertia, A. libyana, and A. magnifica, but distinguishable by the combination of the following characters: (1) the telson with several long simple setae on surface; (2) article 2 of mandibular palp with one to three simple setae; and (3) the pereopod-1 carpus with straight ventral margin. We also determined partial sequences of the 18S rRNA and 28S rRNA genes from the holotype specimen. Our new species represents the first Amakusanthura species reported from the Philippines.
