| Abstract |
Fish behavior has been demonstrated to be both complex and diversified. However, as variation of fish behavior is at the forefront of acclimatization to global changes, describing behavioral modification in wild marine fish remains highly challenging for various practical reasons. To mitigate these limitations, there is a need to incorporate the knowledge already acquired in areas such as aquaculture and welfare that will benefit the conservation and management of wild species. Here, we review the literature, incorporating different aspects of marine fish behavior and socio-behavioral ecology, from fish activity, boldness, aggressiveness to sociality and shoaling, as well as reproductive behavior. We provide a picture of the current knowledge on marine fish behavior and pinpoint its key ecological relevance, potentially important for species of high economic value or conservation concern. |
